Description
Water storage is essential for the City of Bethel’s water supply, The potable water storage connects to the city’s two water treatment plants, supplying the city’s population of over 6,000. Over time, water tanks gradually collect sediment and the sediment requires periodic removal to maintain healthy water quality.
Bethel was contracted by the City of Bethel to inspect and clean two potable water tanks. Bethel conducted inspections to the interior and exterior of the 426,300 gallon and 500,000 gallon bolted steel above ground storage tanks. The inspections were used to determine tank conditions and necessary repairs. Bethel recorded video inspections while the storage tanks were full of water per operational requirements. In order to prevent contamination to the stored water, Bethel’s certified diver and umbilical line were disinfected with a chlorine solution prior to entering the water.
Bethel recorded inspections using real time video with live voice narration. The video inspection of the inside of the tanks included documentation of the structural conditions of coatings, ring and floor panels, welds, seams, foundation, and plumbing. Documentation of the exterior conditions included the sanitary system, anchors, hatches, safety systems, coatings, welds, seams, ladders, shell, root, vent, and manways. Bethel removed all accumulated bottom sediment using a 3-inch sump pump.
