54 Unit Housing Project

Description

These housing units were built to provide needed housing for the staff at the new hospital in Bethel that was completed in 2018.  The housing complex is 41,026 sf in area and consists of two structures—a three-story housing facility and a separate two-story housing facility.  Both of the facilities were built with modular construction units arranged in an axial configuration with dwelling units located on each side of a main corridor to provide a compact, energy‐and‐space‐efficient building footprint.  Separate laundry, mechanical, and electrical rooms serve each floor of the building, while a central boiler room, fire suppression room, and Commons Area are located on the first floor. All handicap accessible dwelling units are located on the first floor, and separate “outside” storage closets provided for each accessible dwelling unit.

Almost 60 modules were shipped from 2 different module plants, half from Seattle and the other half from Anchorage.  Modules were set, the roof structures, stairways and ramps stick built on site, along with the interior and exterior finishes completed.

Site features include a playground, basketball court, and sitting area with picnic tables and benches for tenant use. The playground and court are fenced. Parking is provided on a gravel pad, with handicap parking near the building permanently identified by a concrete pad and painted markings. A designated taxi and shuttle‐bus queuing area is also provided in anticipation of many tenants not having personal vehicles.
