Egegik City Shop

Description

The City Shop is a 90’x150’ clear span metal building with 20’ eave heights. The building includes a concrete foundation, floor slab, exterior aprons, and a steel structure with insulated metal siding panels. Due to the extreme weather in Egegik, the building was designed to withstand wind and snow loads, as well as the seismic effects prescribed for the geographical area.

Egegik has a population of less than 60 people during the year, but explodes in the summer during commercial fishing season. Resources are scarce in Egegik, so all materials, equipment and labor has to be imported in during the short barging season. Logistics are also a challenge due to the location of Egegik, the shallow waters at port, and the limited planes that land in Egegik.

The success of this project solely was based on Bethel’s commitment to building relationships with the people of Egegik, and the detailed planning for construction activities. Bethel was able to complete this project on-time and within budget.
